Technique and Interpretation

Dario Sebastiano Pometti is an Italian lyric tenor whose artistic voice is shaped by a deep affinity with the Belcanto tradition and the stylistic clarity of the Mozartian repertoire. His musical identity is grounded in elegance of line, textual awareness, and vocal transparency — qualities that place both legato and expressive diction at the centre of his interpretative approach.A native Italian speaker, he is fluent in English, German, and Spanish, allowing him to engage authentically with diverse operatic traditions. He graduated with honors from the “V. Bellini” Conservatory in Catania and the “G. Martucci” Conservatory in Salerno, and further refined his development at the Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien (MUK) in Vienna. His artistic formation was enriched through advanced study at leading European institutions, including the Accademia Rossiniana of the Rossini Opera Festival in Pesaro under Ernesto Palacio, the Accademia Chigiana in Siena with William Matteuzzi and Daniele Gatti, the Accademia “AMO” at Teatro Coccia in Novara with Paoletta Marrocu and Chiara Amaru, and the Accademia Rodolfo Celletti in Martina Franca, where he worked with Sara Mingardo, Chris Merritt, Renata Lamanda, and Sherman Lowe. His artistic journey has developed through performances in major theatres and festivals including Teatro Sociale di Como, Teatro Olimpico in Rome, Teatro Ponchielli in Cremona, Teatro Comunale di Bolzano, Arena Sferisterio in Macerata, Teatro Arcimboldi in Milan, Teatro Grande in Brescia, Teatro Verdi in Trieste, Teatro Massimo in Palermo, and the Bregenz Festival. His role path reflects a natural evolution within lyric repertoire: Tamino (Die Zauberflöte) with AsLiCo across leading Italian theatres and at the Bregenz Festival; Conte Alberto in Rossini’s L’occasione fa il ladro at Teatro dei Rozzi in Siena; Don Ramiro (La Cenerentola) at Teatro Massimo in Palermo; Belfiore (Il viaggio a Reims); Tebaldo (I Capuleti e i Montecchi); Comte Barigoule (Cendrillon); Matteo Borsa (Rigoletto); and Toby in Offenbach’s Robinson Crusoé at the Festival della Valle d’Itria. He has collaborated in productions at the Wiener Staatsoper in Vienna. In 2026, he will join the Opera Studio of the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Argentina — an important step in his international development — and will make his debut at Opera Burg Gars during the 2026 summer season. His work was recognized with the 4th Prize at the International Maria Malibran Competition in Naples (2025).
Alongside his stage career, he maintains an active teaching practice, working with singers of different levels and backgrounds. Having studied in both Italy and Austria, he offers expertise in Italian repertoire (from Baroque to bel canto and early Verdi) as well as German repertoire (Mozart, Haydn, Strauss). His teaching approach is grounded in solid technical foundations: costal-diaphragmatic breathing and conscious breath support, balanced vocal emission, management of the passaggio, resonance placement (“mask”), and tonal consistency. Special emphasis is placed on the connection between technique and interpretation, diction, stylistic awareness, and dramatic truth, ensuring that vocal freedom always serves musical expression.
In addition to his musical training, he pursued classical studies with a focus on Latin and Ancient Greek, cultivating a deep interest in language, literature, and philology. Throughout his artistic journey, he has consistently combined vocal study with personal research into text, phonetics, and poetic-musical interpretation. He offers Italian language coaching for singers and international students, with particular attention to operatic diction, textual understanding, and expressive nuance. His aim is to provide linguistic and cultural tools that enable authentic, stylistically informed performances.
